A Gun to Your Head: Inside Post-Soviet... →
In his new book, photographer Donald Weber explores the dark relationship between policemen, prostitutes, thugs and hustlers within the confines of a Russian interrogation room. Last week, Weber’s series won first place at the World Press Photo awards in the Portraits—Stories category.

Printing a 45 print large scale, large format exhibition in less than a week ranks high on my list of equally gratifying and terrifying things I’ve done in life. I’m getting excited to see the last stand of our 2 year long project as the final pieces all start coming together… It’s been a trip, to say the least.
“Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand… once you are Real you can’t become unreal again. It lasts for always.”

I’ve really been enjoying Caitlin’s pieces in this edition of Fortnight.
Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing directions. You change direction but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this storm isn’t something that blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Something...

Check out my entry on Fortnight today - a little compilation of places including Romania, Vietnam and Costa Rica (forgot I even went there this year!).
Monsoon.
We are in Cambodia at the end of their monsoon season, which inevitably means that there are gratuitous pools of standing freshwater around every bend. This means malaria, and here the threat is high.
Against our wishes we are back on Malarone and have to put on this super oily, super strong mosquito repellent every morning to avoid to getting bitten.
Shiny babies.
We’ve been to a number...
Fortnight Round 3 →
I was on planes all of yesterday, so please take a second to look back at my last post on Fortnight from Monday about traveling to West Africa!
This trip was a fraction of one of the most stressful and emotionally draining trips of my life. In fact, I think it tops out at number one. Guinea was smack in the middle of it all, and was a battle of its own. In two weeks we traveled more than 50,000...
Well that wasn't what I was expecting.
This morning after 19+ (I’m trying not to think about the actual number we spent) hours traveling, we finally landed in Cambodia. I was incredibly nervous - possibly more nervous than I’ve ever been - to see the luggage belt (did the battery pack make it??) and was fully prepared to put up a fight trying to get through customs. We were swimming in letters from SI and the United...

Check out my photos from New Orleans on Fortnight today!
My lovely older sister was so nervous about me being alone in the Ninth Ward that she made me text message her every hour with the cross streets where I was located. At the time I thought it was annoying, but looking back I realize that maybe it wasn’t so smart to wander alone through the streets like that.
I couldn’t help...
